Timo Joutsenoja starts work at Kolster as a Senior IPR Business Manager. Joutsenoja, formerly with VTT, is familiar with the IPR from various standpoints and is excited about his forthcoming tasks. His knowledge of the IPR needs and business environments of companies of all sizes is to the benefit of our clients.
DSc (Tech) Timo Joutsenoja, 50, has the main task of selling IPR services and developing customer accounts. His tasks include also assignments and developing the service offering related to IPR strategies, portfolio management and valuations. He primarily works at Kolster’s Kuopio office.
For the past nine years, Timo worked for VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd, dealing with IPR portfolio management and commercialisation, and is well acquainted with matters concerning the management of intellectual property. His former job with UPM’s Corporate Venturing unit and research duties with the Tampere University of Technology provide a perspective to very different operating environments.
“The needs of companies are diverse, and a client of Kolster may be a start-up company as well as a technology giant. One and the same solution does not fit all, as concerns IPR matters. Patents, trademarks, designs, and agreements require specialised and in-depth knowledge. There is a growing need for such a service, and Kolster specifically focuses on extensive service offering in the IP field,” says Timo.
He points out that managing IP rights has for long been an essential part of developing business operations.
“In all business activities, it is important to know how to protect products, processes, and the brand, and agree on their usage rights in, for example, acquisitions and cooperation projects.”
Timo works at the Kuopio office of Kolster and is, like Sini Petsalo, the contact person of Kolster’s entire IPR and legal services offering in Eastern Finland. Timo comes from Siilinjärvi, but studies took him to Tampere. Timo defended his doctoral thesis on pyrometric particle measurements of combustion processes in 1998.
After 25 years, Timo has again settled in Siilinjärvi in Eastern Finland. As a father of three, Timo’s free time is mostly spent with the children’s sporting hobbies, and he also finds it relaxing to maintain his three-hectare yard.
