Maaria Rantala, M.Sc. (Tech.), is an applied mathematician who has studied engineering physics, acoustics, sound processing and especially inverse mathematics, which is used, for example, to study soil, the atmosphere, celestial bodies and the human body. She also has extensive postgraduate studies at the University of Helsinki in mathematical modelling, digital image processing and machine learning.
Prior to joining Kolster as Patent Agent in August 2020, Maaria worked as an R&D Scientist at a globally operating industrial company specialising in medical imaging for approximately 17 years. She is a research and product development professional with extensive experience in solving inverse problems, image processing and programming mathematical algorithms for use in technology.
She has been involved in the development of new technologies and equipment innovations in medical imaging, including X-ray imaging. These are widely utilised in various industries and application areas, such as health care, materials research, quality control and security.
Maaria has been fascinated by the patent industry since her student days, and she has studied the patent field alongside her work. She is included as an inventor in one granted patent. She has carried out many patent surveys and analysed patents that have already been granted from the perspective of freedom to operate and potential patent infringements.
At Kolster, Maaria focuses on protecting our customers’ innovations extensively in the application areas of ICT and electrical engineering.
