Krister Karlsson seeks the best possible protection for Kolster’s clients’ inventions. His work combines strong expertise in chemistry with a deep understanding of business needs and the strategic goals of patenting.
Krister holds a PhD in biochemistry and has extensively assisted chemical industry companies, ranging from medical applications to industrial processes. His expertise covers drafting and prosecuting patent applications as well as oppositions, appeals, and legal proceedings both in Finland and at the European Patent Office (EPO). Oppositions are a particular area of strength, where he leverages his thorough knowledge of patent law and his experience as a technical judge at the Market Court. Krister has also completed an internship at the EPO’s Boards of Appeal.
Having worked as a patent engineer in industry, Krister has hands-on experience in evaluating inventions and determining their business significance.
According to Krister, the foundation of successful patenting lies in three key questions: what is being protected, how the protection is constructed, and why this particular invention should be protected. Successful protection strongly connects the new technology with the business objectives.
