Ria Makkonen helps Kolster’s clients identify and protect their innovations.
Ria holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and has strong expertise in the fields of chemistry and biotechnology. In the field of patenting, she has focused particularly on office action phases, supplementary protection certificate (SPC) applications, and validations.
Ria has participated in international research groups working in tissue engineering. She has gained specific experience in bone tissue engineering at Tohoku University in Japan.
From Ria’s perspective, a company’s IPR strategy should support its business and enable innovation to flourish. This is especially important in the case of medical inventions, where the journey from research project to finished product can be long, making early protection of ideas essential. This ensures that one’s innovations are not left open for others to exploit.
